How to Create Drop Shadows in Photoshop using Layer Styles
Drop Shadows in Photoshop using Layer Styles
Let me show you how to add a drop shadow layer style. We have a bottle sitting on a surface, but we need to add a shadow.
Double click on the bottle layer to bring up the layer style dialog box. Click on Drop Shadow. Your angle should be about 45 and distance about 32. Now we have a drop shadow, but it’s just around the outside of the bottle.
We want to cast a shadow on the surface behind the bottle. So come up to layer, layer style and create layer. Now the bottles drop shadow is on its own layer.
Hit CMD+T to bring up the transform tool. Move your drop shadow into place.
Hold down the command key and move the center point down behind the bottle. Adjust the capacity to lighten up your shadow.
Add a layer mask to your drop shadow layer.
Set your foreground color of your color picker to a dark gray. Hit āGā for the gradient tool.
Hold your shift key down and draw a gradient to fade your shadow.
