What’s New in Photoshop July 2025 (v26.9)
Adobe just released its July 2025 Photoshop update, and it includes three powerful new features that can streamline your creative process, enhance precision, and save you time.
In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through:
– A new way to remove objects non-destructively
– How to choose your preferred Firefly model for more accurate AI image generation
– And how to share directly to apps like Lightroom, with full control over file format and resolution.

In this video, I’ll show each feature in action and offer tips to make the most of them.
1. Remove Objects Faster Using the Contextual Task Bar
Removing distractions in Photoshop just got easier and cleaner.
Previously, users often relied on Content-Aware Fill or Generative Fill with an empty prompt. But now, with the new Remove button in the Contextual Task Bar, you can remove objects with just one click—using improved AI under the hood.
Quote from the video: “So all I need to do is come down to the Contextual Task Bar and press the new remove button… it starts removing the area—even if I didn’t brush perfectly.”

How to Use It:
1. Select an object using the Brush or Lasso tool.
2. The Contextual Task Bar will show the new Remove button.
3. Click Remove, and Photoshop will auto-generate a new layer with the area cleaned up—non-destructively.
Why It’s Powerful:
– It’s faster and more precise than older removal tools
– Automatically protects your original image
– Enhanced AI does a better job of filling in complex backgrounds (even with texture and detail!)
2. Choose Your Preferred Firefly Model for Generative Fill
This feature gives you control over which version of Adobe’s Firefly AI engine is used for image generation.
Now, when using Generative Fill or Generative Expand, you’ll see a new Firefly icon. Click it to choose from available models—like Firefly Image 1 or Image 3.
Quote from the video: “Photoshop will let you choose a model that it uses to generate content… this flexibility allows you to choose the best model for your project.”

Why Use This?
– Different models yield different results—some are better for realism, others for stylization
– You can regenerate content with a different model if you’re not happy with the results
– The Properties panel will show which model was used for each generative layer
3. Share to Apps with Custom Format & Resolution
The third update allows you to share your work directly to popular apps like Lightroom, Slack, and Mail, with full control over export format and resolution.
Quote from the video: “This feature allows you to share images to apps with customizable format and resolution… I clicked Lightroom and added it directly.”

How to Use It:
1. Click the blue Share button (top-right corner of Photoshop).
2. Select “Send to Apps”.
3. Choose your destination (e.g., Lightroom).
4. Set your desired format (JPEG, PNG, PSD, etc.) and resolution (original, small, custom).
5. Click send. That’s it!
Final Thoughts
These three updates in the Photoshop July 2025 release may look simple on the surface—but they’re extremely powerful once you integrate them into your workflow.
Whether you’re a designer, editor, or casual creator, these features will save time and give you greater control over your edits and exports.
